About Lopud 1483
Located on the northern tip of Lopud Island, the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of the Cave, known locally as Gospa od Špilice, dates back to 1483 — the year engraved on its facade and the origin of the name Lopud 1483.
This exclusive-use private retreat is a serene sanctuary where history, art, and nature converge. Sensitively restored from its 15th-century origins, Lopud 1483 offers a unique blend of heritage and modern sophistication. The original 13 monastic cells have been elegantly transformed into five private suites, each featuring its own bathroom and stunning views over the Adriatic Sea or the monastery’s medicinal gardens.
Grounds
The extensive Mediterranean gardens provide abundant space for relaxation, al fresco dining, and quiet contemplation. Guests can explore the carefully curated Sacred Garden, designed by Arctic shaman Åsa Andersson, featuring nine meditation stations inspired by ancient Norse and Sami healing traditions. Nearby lies the traditional Franciscan Pharmacy garden, planted with citrus fruits and aromatic medicinal herbs used historically by the monks.
Restoration and Art
The interiors combine historic preservation with contemporary design. Bespoke joinery and traditional plastering techniques complement handmade furniture by Italian designer Paola Lenti. Renaissance pieces from the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection add historic depth, while carefully selected contemporary artworks from the TBA21 Collection adorn the walls, creating a seamless fusion of past and present.
Culinary Excellence
Culinary experiences at Lopud 1483 reflect elegance and simplicity, crafted by head chef Marin using fresh, local, and home-grown ingredients. Al fresco dining is central to the experience, from breakfasts on the sun deck and casual barbecues in the upper gardens, to drinks on the sunset terrace atop the ancient fortress with panoramic views of the Elaphiti islands. Indoor dining options include the historic Refectory, surrounded by art, and the cozy Old Kitchen, where guests can enjoy wood-fired pizzas baked in a traditional Croatian bread oven.

- Lopud 1483 selected local wines are included in the rate
- All other groceries and drinks are charged additionally, plus a 25 procurement fee. Guests will receive sample menus and preference sheet ahead of the stay
- The cost of groceries and drinks will be deducted from the security deposit at the end of the stay

A separate tourist tax of 2.65 is applicable per person per day and is charged additionally on check out.

- Accommodation for additional guests can be arranged locally (walking distance)
- Upgrade to full board service: 250 per adult / 75 per child, per meal
- Additional external day guests in excess of 10 people for lunch or dinner: 250 per adult / 75 per child, per meal. Please note that this is on request and subject to group size. For larger events or dinners, a further fee may be charged
- Additional airport and speedboat transfers (outside of the one included each way)
- Outsourced excursions and guides
- Massage, yoga, personal training and other treatments
- Special events (e.g. birthday parties, celebration dinners, concerts, symposiums). For events such as these an additional venue hire price will be charged
Notes and regulations
- Check-in / Check-out: Check-in from 16:00, check-out by 10:00. Early/late options only if property is vacant.
- Security Deposit: €15,000 due 14 days before arrival; refunded within 14 days after departure, less 10% gratuity, damages, groceries, and incidentals. Additional deposit may be requested if costs exceed amount held.
- Property Use: Subject to inspection of artworks and furnishings for damage.
- Capacity & Children: Accommodates 10 adults in five double bedrooms (king-size, one convertible to twin). Up to two extra beds/cots for infants or small children with prior written approval. The Refectory dining room is adults only.
Booking and cancelation policy
Booking Terms
- Deposit: 30% non-refundable deposit required to confirm booking; full payment if booking within 3 months of arrival.
- Balance: Due 3 months before check-in.
- Provisional Holds: 48-hour option available (unless within 3 months of arrival), not binding until deposit received.
Cancellation Policy
- Non-payment: If balance is not paid on time, booking will be cancelled and deposit retained.
- Charges:
- 2–3 months before arrival: 50% of total stay price
- 1–2 months before arrival: 75% of total stay price
- Less than 1 month before arrival: 100% of total stay price
- Postponement: Considered a cancellation; rebooking treated as a new booking.
